Three things do most of the damage. The bunkering is relentless: well over a hundred of them frame the greens, so the short-side miss is punishing and center-green is almost always the smart target. The land is open and rolls, so wind and elevation change what the yardage means; several approaches, the 8th especially, play a club or more longer than the number. And the back nine plays noticeably harder than the front: the toughest holes on the card (14, 17, 8, 12) are all back there, so protecting your round late matters more than chasing it early.
