A 501-yard par 5 that looks reachable coming down the stretch. The right call depends on one honest question about your miss.
Going for the green in two from a marginal lie or angle just because it's the 17th and you want a closing birdie, then short-siding into trouble with a nervy up-and-down left.
Going for it wins only when a decent miss still leaves an easy chip. From a poor lie or a tight angle, the lay-up to a full wedge scores lower, especially with tired legs late in the round.
If you're in the fairway and a miss stays safe, send it. Otherwise lay up to your favorite wedge number and take your two-putt par or a stress-free birdie look.
≈ 0.3-0.5 strokes on the closing par 5, by only gambling when the downside is small.
Yardages are from the white tees on the official Monmouth County Parks scorecard; par and stroke index are course-wide. Strokes-saved figures are approximate expected-value ranges for a mid-handicap golfer (roughly 8-18), not guarantees. Aim guidance is general course management. For a hole's exact bunker and green detail, walk it with the yardage book.
