The Blind Tee Shot: Trust the Marker, Not Your Nerves

The landing's hidden and nerves take over. Pick the marker, make your normal swing, move on.

Hole type · Blind tee shot

“The one where you can't see the fairway.”

⛰ Hill hiding the landing zone
🚩 Aim post / marker on the horizon
● Smart target: the marker, a full committed swing
✕ Common miss: steering it blind
The mistake

Steering the ball because you can't see where it's going, which usually produces the very block or pull you were afraid of.

The math

Blindness doesn't change the fairway. It changes your confidence. Most blind-hole doubles come from a tentative, decelerating swing, not from the terrain itself.

The correct target

Find the aim post, tree, or cloud the course gives you, line up to it, and make your normal full swing. Read the yardage book or app for the safe carry, then trust it.

Strokes saved

≈ 0.3-0.5 strokes per hole by replacing a steer with a committed swing.

“Pick the marker, make my everyday swing.”

Strokes-saved figures are approximate, based on expected-value (strokes-gained) course management for a mid-handicap golfer (roughly 8-18). These are real ranges, not guarantees.
